‘Golmaal Again’ has become Ajay Devgn’s first film to enter the ₹200 crore club. The film, which surpassed the earnings milestone within 24 days of its release, is also the first ₹200 crore film for cast members Parineeti Chopra, Tabu and Tusshar Kapoor. It’s the second highest Hindi grosser of 2017 after the Hindi version of ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’.

Today Golmaal Again reached another major milestone in its exceptional domestic theatrical run, topping the ₹200 crore ($31.7 million) net box office threshold, thus becoming the first Bollywood film to reach such rarefied heights this year. The last Bollywood picture to top ₹200 crore in the domestic market was Aamir Khan’s Dangal in 2016.

With ₹44 crore ($6.8 million) in overseas grosses, Golmaal Again is also the fourth-biggest overseas earner this year among all Indian releases. It stands behind DangalBaahubali: The Conclusion, and just behind the third-ranked picture Raees.

Golmaal Again finished up on Saturday just 26 lakhs ($40,000) short of the ₹200 crore level, and surpassed it early on Sunday. Its ₹1.78 crore Friday-Saturday total was off 69 percent from the same period last week. Now in its fourth week of release, by early next week it will pass 3 Idiots to become the 8th-highest domestic earning Bollywood film of all time.

The Rohit Shetty-directed and Ajay Devgn-starring film, the fourth in the Golmaal franchise, helped break a year-long jinx for Bollywood. came and broke the jinx. The movie has surpassed the grosses of two other big releases this fall, Judwaa 2 and Secret Superstar.

Although Golmaal Again is by far Bollywood’s highest earner this year, it isn’t the year’s biggest Hindi-language release; that title belongs to the Hindi-dubbed version ofBaahubali: The Conclusion, which cleared ₹510 crore/$78 million as a chunk of the staggering total of nearly ₹1,400 crore/$215 million it earned domestically across all its multiple language versions.

Still ahead of Golmaal Again on the Bollywood top 10 list are DangalPKBajrangi BhaijaanSultanDhoom 3Kick, and Chennai Express.

Golmaal Again is the fourth film in the hugely popular franchise that elevated Ajay Devgn to major star status. Its success has sparked talk of a fifth Golmaal picture, which director Rohit Shetty has said will “definitely” happen.
