This time it was of great confusion whether August 15  or August 14 would be the date of janmashtami. In fact, the month of bhadrapada, i.e., the 6th month of the year according to Indian national civil calender, is considered to be the birth date of Lord Krishna when ashtami Rohini nakshatra of the midnight side of the Taurus was in the moon.

This time on the evening of August 14,  at sharp 7:48PM, the date will be Monday evening where ashtami would start and continue by 5:42PM on Tuesday evening. As such people are in a State of confusion about janmasthami.  According to the ritual text, the submission date is of special importance. So, 15 August is the special day of janmashtami as in this date, at sharp 5:42PM in evening, the navami would start but the submission date of ashtami would have the due effect on the full day of August 15. Janmashtami will be celebrated on August 14 for Shaiva sect and on August 15  for Vaishnav sect. According to Hindu, Panchag date is considered to be the best and thus this festival is entitled to be celebrated on August 15.
